Profile

I build the technical organizations behind products that have to work. Twenty years as an engineer, founder, and CTO — care, marketplaces, payments, and defense — and now a private holding company funded with my own capital.

Experience

Founder

Jan 2025 — Present

Yesteryear Ventures · Self-employed

San Diego, California

Private holding company. I invest my own capital in a small number of early-stage companies and advise founders on architecture, hiring, and the version of the product that has to ship.

  • Backed Cindera (cindera.com), a wildfire-readiness platform for homeowners, cities, and insurers. A team is building it; this is an investment, not an operating role.
  • Occasional fractional and advisory work with founders I already know.

Co-founder, CTO, & Board Member

Sep 2017 — Dec 2025

Upwards (formerly WeeCare)

Marina del Rey, California

Co-founded the care platform (WeeCare → Upwards). Built product and engineering from zero through Series B ($40M+ raised). Employer and government partnerships, including U.S. Army Reserve childcare access; provider tools so home caregivers can run a real business.

  • Hired and led the engineering organization.
  • Shipped the consumer, provider, employer, and government surfaces.
  • Operated through the rebrand, Series B (Alpha Edison, M13, Fika), and expansion into military and employer benefits.
